Lawton's Family Farm
Lawton’s Family Farm is a small farm that has passed through the generations dating back to 1730. The land they farm now is all that is left of the Kings Land Grant given to the ancestors of Edward Lawton. It once spread from Foxboro to Medfield and Dedham. Ed and Nancy Lawton take pride in the fact that their farm is both a celebrated Massachusetts Century Farm and a Massachusetts Dairy Farm of Distinction. Ed and Nancy, along with daughter Terri, operate this last dairy farm in Norfolk County.
The two things the Lawton’s do best with their cows are 1) produce raw milk and 2) make their own fresh cheeses.
Lawton Farm started selling grass fed cow raw milk and then from there, they used the same raw milk to craft their own cheeses. They are committed to the health and welfare of their cows. No artificial hormones or antibiotics are used in their milk. They craft a soft Fromage Blanc which has a cream cheese like texture. Their Fromage Blanc is plain or flavored with chives, lemon honey or tomato basil. Fromage Blanc is excellent as a spread, mixed with fresh local fruit & vegetables or mixed in salads & eggs.
They also make an Asiago raw milk cheese. They hand stir and then mold it. Lawton’s Asiago is meltable and has a wonderful nutty, buttery flavor. No big machines here, they are all about quality not quantity.
The Lawton’s raise their grass fed beef & veal without the use of antibiotics or hormones. Because they don’t eat any corn or soy grain, they produce a very lean meat. Their calves are fed milk and also get grass or hay "free choice" (meaning it is offered all the time, so they eat when they are hungry.) They also go outside every day and they are not confined in small crates. The Lawton calves are free to run around in the field or just lie around & relax if they like. They offer stew, patties, ground beef, hot dogs as well as loin & shoulder chops, racks, osso bucco and cutlets.
If you are looking for delicious farm fresh food, you have come to the right place @ Lawton’s Family Farm.
