What To Do

Hemlock Woolly Adelgid populations are resurging after several years of being reduced. Early indications are that HWA is rebounding in high numbers. Monitor for building populations and treat in Spring when the weather is conducive to apply a dormant oil or the "preferable" systemic imidacloprid.
The early spring has been very wet causing much leaf spot and shoot blight diseases on woody plants. For high value plants, please consider multiple applications of fungicides, beginning as buds open. For those plants with the recurring leaf and blight problems, consider replacement with a resistant variety of the plant.
